if ever traveling to Beijing, the various market still have the tradition of bargaining. Learn the basic rules of bargaining before going or have a savvy Chinese speaking friend help you or at least do translating. Great deals can be obtained and it is almost a slight if you do not at least try. Besides it can be quite fun

i roll everything up tightly: from socks to teeshirts, skirts, leggings, even some dresses: somehow i can pack significantly more into a small suitcase than by the traditional flat/folded method. my father taught me to do this 100000 yrs ago, said he learned it in the army. it works. i also roll up any bottles or slightly fragile stuff inside my rolled teeshirts. the only things i do not roll are jeans and heavy sweaters --

I like to lay out all my knit tops on top of one another and then fold them together. They don't tend to wrinkle as much as when folded separately.

Roll Jeans tightly, saves space and keeps wrinkle free.Pack only what you need and buy Shampoo,Hair Spray, lotion and Soap when you get to your destination, the Airlines will make you throw it out anyway

Always pack travel sized toiletries, make-up and your medications in your carry-on (I prefer a roller backpack)along with fresh cloths, something warm and snacks!

When traveling abroad(Europe)pack the least. Hotels have excellent facilities where one can wash unmentionables and air dry. For 10 days, 3 sets of underwear, socks, shirts, pants or shorts, 1 pair shoes, 1 sandals. All in a carry-on. Less to get lost.

Wrap your "really good" clothes in tissue paper. They will look fresh and unwrinkled.

After being bumped off many overbooked flights that my luggage got to take, I learned to pack a change of dainties for myself and my hubby in our carry on, after doing laundry in a hotel sink with shampoo and blow drying our things.

When I am packing, to save room, I roll socks and underwear and put them in place of my shoe trees. This way the shoes don't squish and I have more room. This is also where I put my cologne and deodorant. They are protected, but if they do break or leak, my shoes will smell better for their next wear.

When packing shoes, stuff smaller items, that is socks, underwear, etc into shoes.
Rolled up underwear, socks or other small items can be stuffed into corners and other small spaces.

Pepto bismol tablets are great when you travel to places where sanitation is questionable. Eat a couple just before you take a meal and the bismuth in PB acts as a mild antibacterial, thus figthing off any E. coli that might be present, and the fiber is effective at absorbing any toxins that some bacteria elaborate when the food is not stored poperly. Trick I learned in a travel medicine course while an Army Doc. For this to work the tablets have to be in your stomach when the food is, so within an hour or so of taking the tablets, and take the tablets FIRST.

When packing travel light remember carriers weight requirements. also, all liquids must be in a ziplock bag and not more than 3 ounces or TSA will delay you in check in process. Make it a fun trip with good preparation

I always start with a carefully thought-out list of items. I may start this list several days before I actually begin packing. I check each item on my list, and think about the number of days I am away. If I can do without something (ie: maybe only a brief trip), then I don't bring it. If it is bulky, and can be purchased at my destination, or perhaps borrowed from a friend or a family member, then I may choose to do that, rather than pack it. I try, as much as possible, to strictly pack BY MY LIST. It keeps me focused, as well as less stressed.
