Fort Lauderdale is a popular strip of Florida’s east coast just north of Miami and near the Everglades. I probably don't have to tell you that it's got a reputation for big time fun along its 23 miles of beaches, and has lots of attractions for all ages.
But if you think you’ve been there and done that, it’s time to revisit and see what’s new. On the scene this year is a series of block party-like events every Saturday in August, showcasing new venues and improvements around the business district, which have been created to attract new and returning visitors.
Saturday Night Alive is an innovative event along a mile of Route A1A in Fort Lauderdale from Bahia Cabana hotel to Sunrise Boulevard. It features 20 live performers (think jazz and mariachi bands, salsa dancers, DJs, stilt walkers, magicians, and puppeteers) indoors and out, dozens of street vendors, drink specials, special parking rates, and free trolley service so you can eat, drink, stroll, and then jump on the free shuttle when you're ready to go somewhere new. Have your pick of 30 restaurants and 24 clubs and lounges, many of which will have prix fixe menus, or other dinner and drink specials, including those in the upscale resort hotels along this stretch—the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach, The Westin Beach Resort Fort Lauderdale, The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale, W Fort Lauderdale, and The Atlantic Hotel. Entertainment will run from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. August 8, 15, and 22. Check on the Saturday Night Alive website for entertainment schedules and locations as well as special promotion codes. Depending on its success, it may be back as a year-round event.
Thought you knew all about Fort Lauderdale and the crowds it attracts? Saturday Night Alive's brought a new twist to town. I can’t wait to check it out this month! After all, there's nothing better than rediscovering an old favorite beach with something different to entertain us.
