Your Guide to the 2012-2013 Ski Season Opening Day in North American Resorts

Skiing at Steamboat Springs Resort, Colorado (Colorado Ski Country)

Some say that fall isn't over until every ski resort has opened their doors. The last leaves have yet to fall, but if you're a snow junkie, we're sure you've monitored your favorite resort's snowfall. To make it easier on those who don't live and breathe opening day, here are some of the most popular resorts in North America and the festivities they've planned for the first day of their 2012-2013 winter season.  

Marmot Basin Ski Resort
November 9, 2012
Marmot's official opening day was November 9. However, the resort opened two more lifts on November 15.

Breckenridge Ski Resort
November 10, 2012
Breck celebrated opening day with 2,000 free cinnamon rolls and free parking after a storm brought 7" to the mountainside.

Vail Ski Resort
November 16, 2012
Vail opened for the 2012-2013 season on November 16. The resort's 50th winter season was marked with the unveiling of a new state-of-the-art gondola at Mountain Plaza in Vail Village.

Squaw Valley Ski Resort
November 16, 2012
With over two feet of early-season snow, Squaw Valley pushed their start date to November 16.

Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort
Whistler opened November 17, 2012
Blackcomb opening November 22, 2012
After 10 centimeters of snow fell on Friday, November 16, Whistler Mountain opened their doors five days early. Neighboring mountain, Blackcomb, is set to open on November 22, to the tune of numerous musical acts and street performers entertaining the thousands of snow lovers who will populate the lift lines. 

Stowe Ski Resort
November 17, 2012
Stowe Mountain kicked off the winter season on Saturday, November 17.

Park City Ski Resort
November 17, 2012
One of the first to do so, Park City opened to eager riders on November 17.

Beaver Creek Ski Resort
November 21, 2012
Opening day is kicked off with the 9th Annual World's Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition. The top five recipes will compete to be the official cookie recipe of Beaver Creek. Each of the five finalists will serve 1,000 cookies on opening day.

Crested Butte Ski Resort
November 21, 2012
Plan to make it up the mountain for Crested Butte's opening day because they're continuing a tradtion of free skiing for all on opening day. Stop by the main ticket office for your tickets. There will also be live music and interactive events on the mountain base with a theme of Ullr, the Norse god known for skiing.

Steamboat Ski Resort
November 21, 2012
Celebrating its 50th anniversary with 15" of new "champagne powder" last week, Steamboat plans to open the lift lines on November 21.

Telluride Ski Resort
November 22, 2012
The resort opens from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for early season skiers.

Sun Valley Ski Resort
November 22, 2012
Sun Valley's Baldy Mountain opens Thanksgiving Day.

Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort
November 22, 2012
Snowmass and Aspen Mountain are set to open on Thanksgiving Day. The other two resorts, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk, have a start date of December 8 and December 15 respectively.

Tremblant Ski Resort
November 22, 2012
Free hot chocolate will be served to the first guests of Mount Tremblant from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Lifts close at 3:30 p.m., followed by après-ski in the pedestrian village.

Whiteface Ski Resort
November 23, 2012
New York's Whiteface Mountain opened to skiers and snowboarders on November 17 and 18. Shutting back down for the holidays, it will reopen for the season on November 23.

Jackson Hole Ski Resort
November 24, 2012
Opening day at Jackson Hole is celebrated in the form of a kick-off party at the Four Seasons. Browse looks from local snow sports retailers, as well as the latest in skis and boards. Teton Village restaurants will be handing out samples of their après bites. 

Deer Valley Ski Resort
December 8, 2012
Deer Valley opens its gates with a Celebrity Skifest. Olympic ski legends and TV stars will compete on the Birdseye ski run Saturday and Sunday at noon.
